The collection contains a letter from Washington Irving to [John] Wetherell dated 1830 December 17, concerning a consular position for a friend of Wetherell's. The collection also contains two engravings. One engraving by C. Turner from painting by [Gilbert] Stuart Newton of Washington Irving's head and shoulders as a young man n.d. The second engraving is a large colored engraving by [George Perine] of "Washington Irving and his LIterary Friends at Sunnyside" 1864.

Washington Irving (b. April 3, 1783, New York City-d. November 28, 1859, Sunnyside, Tarrytown, New York), American author, wrote his first popular work, A History of New York, under the pseudonym Diedrich Knickerbocker.
